It’s internship application season… are you ready?

My old friend Ben Mullin — who is a Northern California native, young journalist, and former coworker from our days on Chico State’s Orion — is now working a great gig over at Poynter, and he recently complied a great list of 77 different journalism internships that you should definitely be checking out. WIRED Editorial Fellowships
Deadline: Applications will open in November
Location: San Francisco
Pay: $12.25 per hour
Description: “Editorial fellowships focus on WIRED’s front-of-the-book sections, gadgets research, and fact-checking. We do not offer summer internships, and since our fellowships are full-time, they are not appropriate for matriculated students.”


Los Angeles Times
Deadline: Nov. 15, Dec. 1, April 1
Location: Los Angeles, California and Washington, D.C.
Pay: $700 per week.
Description: “Interested in working with some of the best journalists around? We offer 10 weeks of intensive, hands-on experience in a region where big stories are the norm. We place interns throughout the L.A. Times for our summer program: Metro/Local, Sacramento, Sports, Business, Features (Home, Image, Travel, Food, Mind & Body), Arts & Entertainment, Editorial Pages, Washington, D.C., bureau, Photography/Video, Data Desk, Visualization and Data, Design and latimes.com. The deadline for the Reporting and Visual Journalism applications is Nov. 15; Website and Visualization & Data is Dec. 1; and Data Desk and Design are April 1.”


Investigative News Network
Deadline: Oct. 15
Location: Applicants can work remotely if desired
Pay: $15 per hour
Description: “The INN Product and Technology Team (aka The INN Nerds) is looking for a couple of apprentices to join our team this spring (starting in January 2016).”


Marketplace
Deadline: Nov. 2
Location: Los Angeles
Pay: $11 per hour
Description: “Award-winning Marketplace is public radio’s daily magazine of business and economics. Airing weekday mornings and evenings, it boasts the largest audience for any business program in the U.S. on radio, cable, or network television.”


Google News Lab Fellowship
Deadline: Was near the end of January in 2015
Location: Various journalism nonprofits throughout the United States
Pay: $8,500 for 10 weeks, plus $1,000 travel stipend
Description: “In an effort to help develop the next crop of reporters working to keep people around the globe informed, educated and entertained, we have created the Google News Lab Fellowship. As a company dedicated to organizing the world’s information and making it universally accessible and useful, Google recognizes that behind many blue links is a journalist and that quality journalism is a key ingredient of a vibrant and functioning society.”


NPR Summer Internships
Deadline: Feb. 26
Location: Various stations throughout the United States.
Pay: A max of $4,200
Description: “A learning experience like no other. The NPR internship program has a rich history, helping us discover nearly 10% of our current staff including Ari Shapiro, Audie Cornish, Guy Raz and many more.”
